At the September 6th meeting, Brigantine city council passed a resolution in opposition to the Biden Administration’s suggestion to use the Atlantic City International Airport to house 60,000 immigrants.
Council members had major concerns as to whether Atlantic County was properly equipped to provide the necessary food, housing, education, and healthcare needs for the proposed 60,000 immigrants.
Mayor Vince Sera said “Council is very concerned that the lack of appropriate resources and accommodations will lead to inhumane conditions, putting the immigrants in a potentially life threatening situation. The Biden Administration should really look for a location that is better equipped to meet the basic needs of such a large influx of immigrants.”
The resolution also calls out the Federal Government's failures to properly address immigration issues in the US. “If the Biden administration has a real desire to increase immigration to the US, then they should create opportunities for people to come to our country legally. The idea of bringing people illegally into the US and then having them live in sanctuary states or cities is wrong. By doing so, the Government is forever trapping people in a situation where they are living in our country, but never really allowing them to fully receive the benefits and protections of being a legal citizen. The Biden administration needs to re-examine its border policies and come up with a plan that allows immigrants a real opportunity to enter the Country legally and streamlines the process for becoming a full citizen” said Mayor Sera.
