Brigantine Introduces 2025 Budget

Brigantine Introduces 2025 Budget With a Strong Focus on Capital Improvements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  March 19, 2025

Brigantine, NJ – At the March 19th City Council meeting, City Manager Tiger Platt introduced the 2025 budget, which includes a 2.76-cent tax increase aimed at funding significant capital improvements for the city.

Mayor Vince Sera explained, “Part of this increase is due to the rising inflation that has driven up costs across municipalities statewide. The remainder of the increase reflects the substantial investments we are making in improving our community’s infrastructure.”

The City has allocated over $23 million for capital improvements over the next six years, focusing on vital projects that will enhance the quality of life for residents.

“We are prioritizing improvements to our roads, beaches, recreational facilities, public buildings, and our water and sewer systems,” said Mayor Sera. “These are critical investments in the future of our city.”

For the 2025 fiscal year, a penny on the tax rate equates to $354,171 in revenue. The proposed local purpose tax rate will be 72.16 cents per $100 of assessed value. For example, a property assessed at $500,000 will see an increase of $138 in property taxes compared to the previous year.

Despite the increase, the 2025 local tax rate remains roughly the same as it was over a decade ago, maintaining a level that has remained stable for many years.

“We are proud to maintain a tax rate that remains nearly the same as it was in 2014,” said Mayor Sera. “In a time when many municipalities are seeing significant increases in taxes and expenses, Brigantine has managed to keep costs under control while making necessary investments in our community’s future.”

There will be a public hearing on the budget at the April 16th Brigantine City council meeting.
